<span style="font-family: Verdana;">“乒乓球作为中国的国球，不论是在国内还是在国际上都是取得了极为优异的成绩，至少在未来的十年之内全世界没有人敢赶超中国。这样一个国球，它之所以称为国球，就是因为它有着雄厚的群众性，在中国的民间有大量的乒乓高手。” 中央电视台体育频道总监江和平表示。“我们搞这样一个活动，不在于我们真的选拔了一个球王，蓬勃开头，这就是我们最大的诉求，我也期待着我们产生的球王能够代表真正的中国草根的最高水平，我也期待着通过这样一个活动把全民健身开展得更加红火。”</span>

<span style="font-family: 宋体, Arial, sans-serif; font-size: 16px; line-height: 28px; text-indent: 32px; ">《谁是球王》节目由曾经参与创建过《正大综艺》、《城市之间》、《球迷狂欢节》等大型娱乐栏目的导演辛少英团队全力制作。总导演辛少英表示：“本项赛事面对草根，给了热爱乒乓球的个人及家庭参与的机会，我们将融合各种电视表现手段，在每个赛事阶段推出有故事，有内涵的乒乓球人物，挖掘最质朴的与乒乓球有关的故事，重点展现乒乓球运动带给人们的积极的正能量，另外，我们将走入各个基层场地，原汁原味展现当地乒乓球文化特色”。</span>

<span style="font-family: Verdana;">球王争霸赛即总决赛分为团体赛和个人球王争霸赛，家庭组双打比赛作为表演项目参加总决赛。这是整个赛事的最高潮，竞技性和悬念感最强，因此对比赛本身的转播要求正规、完整、达到国际大赛标准。同时，还会邀请广大观众共同参与到“征集感人的乒乓球人物评选”活动中，选出最让你感动的草根乒乓人物。</span>
