“It’s not so nice when you keep losing to the same player”, said Timo BOLL. “Now, I feel good, very good.” The reason, in the quarter-finals of the Men’s Singles event at the Liebherr Swedish Open in Gothenburg on Saturday 19th November 2005 he beat China’s MA Long 6-11, 11-7, 11-6, 11-9, 8-11, 11-1. It was the third time that the pair had met in World Ranking events and it was the first time that Timo BOLL had won.

In Shenzhen in September 2005, Timo BOLL had lost to MA Long in the second round of the Men’s Singles event at the Volkswagen China Open and at the Liebherr German Open in Magdeburg in early November 2005 he had lost at the semi-final stage. Positive “I changed my tactics a little”, said Timo BOLL. “This time I made sure that I attacked first, last week I had chances and if it’s close, 10-8 or similar then anyone can win, last week Ma Long took the chances when it was close.” MA Long is in a rich vein of form at the moment and brimful of confidence. In Gothenburg, Timo BOLL lost the first game but then won the next three and in the fifth game he led 3-1 and 7-2; victory was in sight. However, MA Long kept trying; played positively and won the game 11-8! “He took some risks”, said Timo BOLL. “I think I became nervous that’s why lost the game.” However, BOLL recovered, dominated the seventh game and extracted revenge for the two previous defeats. “Today, I think I received service better than last time, if I didn’t receive well, then he won easy points”, added BOLL. “He also received my service well but I was able to win points today when he served and that had been a problem on the last two occasions that we met.” Powerful BOLL won in six games but it had been a tough encounter and the German was full of praise for his younger adversary. “MA Long’s forehand is very good, very powerful; also his counter topspin is good”, explained BOLL. “Meanwhile, on the backhand he is very safe, very sure.” Now, doesn’t that explanation of MA Long also fit someone else? He could be describing WANG Liqin! It was a very creditable performance by Timo BOLL who has an exhausting schedule. “It’s very tough, often I really do feel tired but I keep going”, he said. “The physical training in the summer has helped a great deal but this year I’ve been totally free of injury and of course that’s really helped.” Timo BOLL now meets China’s HAO Shuai in the semi-finals and of the current leading Chinese players, Timo BOLL with have played them all in 2005; perhaps the only exception in World Ranking events is KONG Linghui but at the Volkswagen 48th World Championships he played LIU Guozheng, at the Liebherr Men’s World Cup he faced, WANG Liqin, MA Lin and WANG Hao whilst the rising star, MA Long, is no stranger. No Rest However, perhaps after the Liebherr Swedish Open he can have a short rest before the Volkswagen Pro Tour Grand Finals in December. “No, no rest”, smiled BOLL. “Next Friday we have European Champions League match, a ten hour journey by road!” TTV Re-Bau Gönnern, the club that Timo BOLL represents, play Cestas of France and of course, Timo BOLL is the German club’s leading player, so it’s a trip to Bordeaux; as they say, life’s tough at the top. Timo BOLL, the number one seed, beat China’s MA Long at the quarter-final stage of the Men’s Singles event at the Liebherr Swedish Open in Gothenburg. 外国球员真的挺坦白, 赛后一般都会说出自己的感受.

“He took some risks”, said Timo BOLL. “I think I became nervous that's why lost the game.”

波尔在瑞典公开赛后说: “他(马龙)打球带点冒险, 我相信这是令我感到紧张和输掉第7局的原因” 波尔回想他在德国公开赛时输掉给马龙的原因.

就是呢, 总觉得国内的球员一般都是技术超好, 但略为保守一点. 希望国家队可以有更多一些“打球带点冒险”的球员, 让国外的选手不容易适应.

波尔的确是一名有素质有文化的优秀运动员
他虽然战胜了马龙但他不张狂，显得很稳重（在世界杯上的表现也如出一辙）
